Insane Clown Posse brings horror-core to the Rialto
Clowns usually have funny names like Bozo, Coco and Bim Bom. But the Detroit duo that makes up the Insane Clown Posse aren't your average jokers. Their names are Wicked J and Shaggy 2 Dope.
For a group that calls itself "the most hated band in the world," the underground horror-core hip-hop group has certainly gotten a lot of love over the past decade. The band has more than 10 albums to its credit, its own brand of soda pop and legions of fans known as juggalos and juggalettes.
The ICP brand is built on mystery and the mythos of the Dark Carnival. And one of the questions that's never been answered: Who does the band's perfectly painted makeup?
Expect to be shocked, rocked and horrified at the Rialto Theatre on Sunday. Tickets are $30 in advance, $32 the day of the show, which starts at 7:30.
GWAR, a band from another planet, here Friday night
If Viking-bots from outer space invaded Earth, they could pick up a fashion tip or two from the heavy-metal rockers of GWAR.
Members Oderus Urungus, Balsac the Jaws of Death, Flattus Maximus, Jizmak da Gusha and Beefcake the Mighty are loud, vulgar and angry — just what every thrash-metal group should be.
The band started as a marketing experiment among artists and musicians at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, though members insist they are galactic warriors spawned from aliens deserted in Antarctica. GWAR recently celebrated its 25th year with the release of "Lust in Space," its 11th studio album.
GWAR will rip through the Rialto Theatre on Friday, unleashing its raucous riffs and throat-wrenching vocals. The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $22 in advance, $25 the day of the show.
