Another underpass is opening!
Tucson loves a good underpass opening. So much so that we are having yet another one this morning.
Mayor Bob Walkup, Councilwomen Regina Romero and Nina Trasoff and other leaders will be on hand to celebrate and dedicate the Cushing Street Underpass, one of several underpasses that connect the neighborhoods on either side of Interstate 10.
The fun starts at 8 a.m. at the Riverpark Inn, 350 S. Freeway.
Mickey Mouse, warts and all, at the Loft Cinema Tuesday night
Film curator Dennis Nyback returns to Tucson for one night only to present his 16mm compilation of old cartoons, which he calls "F@$# Mickey Mouse."
Nyback dished the dirt on Bugs Bunny, with Warner Bros. shorts to prove his points, in a sold-out event in May at the Loft.
Now he's back with his revealing Mickey Mouse show, screening Tuesday at the Loft, 3233 E. Speedway.
You'll learn about rare cartoon precursors to Walt Disney, plus (in Nyback's words) "imitators that ripped him off, and parodies that made vicious fun of some of Disney's greatest animation shorts."
The program starts at 7 p.m., and tickets are $8.
One way or another . . . Blondie's here on Tuesday
Pioneering rocker Deborah Harry and her band Blondie spent their summer touring with fellow rock pioneer Pat Benatar, covering a big swath of the United States.
So you would think Blondie would want to slip into vacation mode for the fall.
But the band apparently can't settle into a slowdown — not yet, anyway.
Blondie is back on the road, including a stop Tuesday night at Desert Diamond Casino, 1100 W. Pima Mine Road.
Blondie's outing with Benatar ended Aug. 23, and the band wasted no time hitting the road for a stretch of dates that ends with the Tucson show. Blondie will then take a break before a pair of concerts in November in Indiana.
Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006, Blondie was a leader of the new-wave movement of the late 1970s and early '80s, with a string of hits that included "Call Me," "The Tide Is High," "Rapture," "Atomic" and "Heart of Glass." Harry, 64, also released several solo records, including 2007's "Necessary Evil."
Blondie's show starts at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Tickets are $30-$55 in advance through www.ticketmaster.com. Tickets $5 more day of show.

Touring magicians bring their show to La Paloma Friday and Saturday
Nationally touring magicians Roland Sarlot and Susan Eyed practice the art of illusion, circa 1850s Europe.
There's mystery and intrigue and delightful fun in their "Carnival of Illusion," a show that takes its lead from those long-ago days. Experience it yourself at 6 and 8:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa, 3800 E. Sunrise Drive. Tickets are $20 for adults, with discounts available. Reservations: 615-5299.
The pair will take the show to the Doubletree Hotel at Reid Park Fridays and Saturdays through September. For details on those shows, call 881-4200 or go online to carnivalofillusion.com
