Professional boxer-turned-
comedian Joey Medina, who
returns to Laffs Comedy Caffe in
Tucson this weekend, was still
wet behind the ears when he
embarked on Paul Rodriguez's
Latin Kings of Comedy Tour in
the 1990s.

Although Medina got his start at
Laffs in 20 years ago, the Latin
Kings of Comedy Tour was the
turning point in his career,
launching him to the upper
echelon of Latin comedy.

What other unknown Latin comic
appearing on the Latin Kings of
Comedy bill went on to succeed
Rodriguez as the king?

THE SCORE

Bridges will burn

Tucson, Arizona | Published: 07.03.2008
Club Congress has a triple play on Tuesday
Rooney is one of those mid-'00s, "The O.C."-soundtracking bands that's somehow managed to survive despite never really breaking through on a major level (although the song "I'm Shakin'" is still pretty catchy.)
The group is literally related to another generic rock band, Phantom Planet.
Rooney's singer, Robert Schwartzman, is the brother of actor Jason Schwartzman, the former drummer for P-Planet.
Rooney's forte is upbeat, poppy, English-sounding rock, and it will stop by Club Congress Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. The band brings along with it Locksley, a high-energy poppy rock band that maybe should be headlining.
Also on the bill are The Bridges, who probably have the most crossover potential of all three acts. The Bridges hail from Alabama and play a kind of alt-country, harmonic pop that can recall The Dixie Chicks. The band just released its debut album, "Limits of the Sky."
The show is all ages. Cost: $13 in advance and $15 day of.

New label releasing CD compilation of locals
A new Tucson label, Worry Dolls Records, is releasing a new compilation CD of local artists.
"Everyone! Everyone! Everyone!" features bands such as Feel Good Revolution and The Runaway Five, both of which will be performing at the CD-release party on Wednesday.
Also on the bill are God of the Sea, The Shkanks, AIDS Free, Young Mothers, and Logan and the Bricks.
The free all-ages show is at Club Congress. The CD will cost $5 the night of the event.
