The Old Pueblo is quickly playing catch-up when it comes to karting, a sport that started in California in the 1950s and has since become a significant motor sport, with drivers sponsored by the likes of Honda, Ferrari and Mercedes-Benz.

NASCAR's Jeff Gordon, Formula One's Michael Schumacher and IndyCar's Danica Patrick all got their start in kart racing, which has a huge following in Asia, South America, Europe and some parts of the United States.

Tucson bars ready for Thanksgiving crowds

Regulars at The Buffet start asking about the Thanksgiving sign-up sheet in August.

Tucson's oldest bar in one continuous location, The Buffet has offered holiday spreads for years.

"Last year the bar was full. At least 30 people brought food," said Buffet co-owner Lisha Smith, who posted the sign-up several weeks ago.

The Silver Thread Trio making golden music

When you see three stylish young women with instrument cases in downtown Tucson, you might figure they were packing Fenders and planning to plug in and rock out.

But the Silver Thread Trio is coming from a distinctly more delicate place.

The local act performs vintage folk songs in three-part harmony along with a growing repertoire of original songs. The result, more often than not, is pristine and haunting.
